Location

With the Mediterranean beaches (15 minutes by bus) and the old Cevennes Mountains nearby, Montpellier is “the” sunny place to visit, also famous for its historical heritage and cultural life. It has marvellous mild weather and offers great quality of living.

Student Life

Montpellier is home to 60.000 university students from all parts of France (there are plenty of international students as well). The University of Montpellier is well known for its medical school (oldest in Europe). Its numerous faculties welcome students in all fields of studies (Law, Science, Arts, Literature, Business and many others). The city is full of culture, while the cost of living remains lower than in most big French cities.

Place in the Sun

Montpellier (population 260.000) benefits from 300 days of sunshine a year (!!!) perfect for enjoying café lifestyle, pedestrianised city centre, performances of the street musicians who populate its squares and medieval streets, daily markets with typical “Provence” colours and relaxed pace of Mediterranean life.

Cultural Highlights

Festivals and cultural events are held all year round in Montpellier (theatre, dance, rock and classical music festivals). You are welcome to indulge into favourite local leisure activities: meeting friends, lounging on sunny terraces or dancing under the stars. Numerous bars, restaurants, museums and theatres offer a lot of opportunities for amusement. The surrounding countryside is perfect for more sports focused activities, Montpellier being just 15 minutes away from the Mediterranean beaches and a short drive away from the Alps.

    Accommodation

    Which accommodation for you?

Accommodation at a French host is not for the younger students only, and a lot of our adult students are seeking this kind of accommodation to improve their conversation skills and meet French people of their age.

Residences are perfect for couples and people travelling together or adults looking for an executive standard of living, or additional independence.

Student residences and rooms at the university campus are more specifically suited for tight budgets and students attracted by an international, lively atmosphere and the student’s party lifestyle.

    French host families

It is the perfect accommodation if you are seeking a total immersion in French language and culture. You can choose to be accommodated at a host family, a couple or a single person and let us know your preferences regarding the age and profile of your host. You can stay at an apartment in the town centre, a house with a garden or a villa near the beach, the main selection criteria on our part being the warm welcome you’ll receive!

Meals with your hosts and their friends will allow you to improve your every day language skills. Living with people of Montpellier will also help you to discover the city and to make new friends. Many students stay in touch with their hosts after they go back to their home countries.

Staying with a French host family implies you are keen to discover a new culture and different customs, and requires a respect of the hosts’ habits so that you can adapt to the lifestyle “a la Française”! It would be great if you offered to lend a hand every now and then to help participate in daily chores around the house – an extra pair of hands is always appreciated!

On the application form, you are invited to list all preferences and specific demands so that we are able to book the accommodation that will best match your needs and expectations. We will select your host according to your requirements: profile of the family, age, interests, location, type of lodging, pets, smoking or not, diet, allergies, religion and any other requests you may have.
